Raymond della Torre held the patriarchate from 1273 to 1299, but his coinage falls within a narrower window tied to his periods of effective secular control over Friuli — contested repeatedly by the Counts of Gorizia and the Habsburgs. The scepter type specifically is associated with his assertion of temporal lordship during the early-to-mid 1280s, when the patriarchate was still functioning as a meaningful territorial power before its gradual absorption into competing dynastic ambitions accelerated under his successors.
