| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central short cross pattée set within a reeded inner circle, the arms of the cross boldly rendered in low relief characteristic of medieval hammered billon coinage. The surrounding field carries a Latin circular legend reading EPS TRIDEN, referring to the Bishop of Trento, distributed around the outer margin of the flan. The overall design is typical of the denaro piccolo type struck for the Prince-Bishopric of Trento in the mid-thirteenth century. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the edges, consistent with hand-hammered production of the period. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Frederick II here refers not to the Holy Roman Emperor but to Federico Vanga, Prince-Bishop of Trento, whose episcopate coincided with a prolonged struggle between imperial and papal factions for control of the Alpine passes. Trento's mint output during this period was caught directly in that tension — the prince-bishops held temporal authority by imperial grant, yet answered spiritually to Rome. The "F" initial anchors the coin firmly to Federico's pontificate rather than to any of his successors, a useful anchor given how often small billon issues of the region are misattributed.
