| Reverse description | A long voided cross extends to the border of the flan, dividing the reverse into four quadrants and intersecting the surrounding circular legend. The arms of the cross are plain and reach the inner circle, creating a bold geometric composition characteristic of medieval Italian piccoli. The Latin legend S ERCULANVS, referring to Saint Herculanus, the patron bishop-martyr of Perugia, is distributed around the periphery and is partially cut by the cross arms. The flan shows the characteristic irregular outline and weak strike areas typical of hammered billon coinage of the period. |
