Henry II of Gorz held the signoria of Treviso from 1319 until the city passed to the Scaligeri of Verona in 1329, but coinage under his name appears confined to the earlier part of that decade. The denaro piccolo was by this point a denomination in steep decline across northern Italy — billon content falling, flans shrinking — and this piece sits at the tail end of a centuries-old communal minting tradition that Treviso would effectively abandon under subsequent lordship.
