| Obverse description | Central field depicts two facing figures seated side by side: the Patriarch of Aquileia on the left, shown frontally in ecclesiastical vestments with a mitre, and a secular ruler on the right, similarly enthroned and crowned, together symbolising the spiritual and temporal authority of the patriarchate. Both figures are rendered in a flat, stylised Romanesque manner typical of 12th-century Italian hammered coinage. A partial circular legend surrounds the design, reading AQVILEGIA · P · GO TI, abbreviated for Aquileia, Patriarch Gottfried (Godfrey). The coin exhibits an irregular flan with a beaded or rope inner border framing the central design. |
