Vespasian struck this type during the consolidation phase following the Year of the Four Emperors, when projecting military legitimacy was a deliberate political calculation. The Victoria Avgvsti iconography was not decorative sentiment — it tied his authority directly to the Judaean campaign, culminating in the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD, which he and Titus had jointly prosecuted before his accession.
RIC II.1 362 places this issue firmly within the reorganized Rome mint output of 72–73, a period when Vespasian was also rebuilding the Capitoline temple destroyed during the civil war fighting of 69.
