| Obverse description | Laureate and diademed head of Apollo facing right, adorned with an elaborate wreath of laurel and a beaded diadem, the hair rendered in fine wavy locks falling to the neck. A pickaxe (acisculus), the moneyer's badge and a punning reference to his cognomen, appears in the left field. The portrait is executed in the late Republican style, with fine engraving of the facial features and deeply modelled hair. The design is enclosed within a wreath border, with the legend ACISCVLVS inscribed in the left field. |

The composition alludes to the mythological abduction of Europa by Jupiter in the guise of a bull. A serpent coils beneath the bull's legs in the lower field. The legend L•VALERIVS is inscribed in the exergue, identifying the moneyer Lucius Valerius Acisculus. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border. |
