| Beschrijving keerzijde | Jupiter, nude and dynamic, seated in a quadriga driven at full gallop to the left, holding the reins in his extended left hand while raising a thunderbolt aloft in his right hand, poised to hurl it. The four horses are depicted in vigorous motion, their legs extended in a flying gallop, conveying speed and divine power characteristic of late Republican die engraving. The legend C•YPSAE•COS PRIV CEPIT is distributed across the reverse field, commemorating Gaius Hypsaeus as consul and his capture of Privernum, a historical reference alluding to the moneyer's distinguished ancestry. The composition is well-centred within a border of dots. An alternative variety (RRC 420/1b) bears a scorpion on the reverse. |
