The legend C•YPSAE•COS PRIV CEPIT is distributed across the reverse field, commemorating Gaius Hypsaeus as consul and his capture of Privernum, a historical reference alluding to the moneyer's distinguished ancestry. The composition is well-centred within a border of dots. An alternative variety (RRC 420/1b) bears a scorpion on the reverse. |
