The inscription records the senatorial vows offered to Jupiter Optimus Maximus on behalf of Augustus, referencing the restoration of the Republic. There is no portrait; the entire obverse field is occupied by the epigraphic text framed by the wreath. The style is characteristic of the Augustan monetary reform period, emphasizing civic and religious themes over imperial portraiture. |

To the left and right of the cippus appear the letters S and C (Senatus Consultum), flanking the monument in the field. The moneyer's legend, L MESCINIVS RVFVS IIIVIR, runs around the outer periphery of the reverse. The composition is strictly epigraphic and architectural, with no figural elements, consistent with the austere civic iconography favoured in Augustan coinage of this series. |
