Obverse description Helmeted head of Roma facing right, wearing a crested Attic helmet adorned with a decorative visor and feathered plume, rendered in the vigorous late-Republican style typical of the gens Junia coinage. The portrait is boldly modeled with strong facial features, the neck draped in what appears to be a slight shoulder covering. The field is plain and the coin is bordered by a dotted bead-and-reel inner circle. No legend appears on the obverse, the identification relying entirely on the reverse inscription.

Reverse description A Victory driving a biga (two-horse chariot) at full gallop to the right, the horses rendered with dynamic energy and the charioteer leaning forward with reins extended; above the horses appears a numeral control-mark (e.g. XI) in the upper field. A horizontal ground line divides the field from the exergue. In the lower left field, a secondary alphabetical control-mark (letter) is visible. In the exergue, the moneyer's legend D•SILANVS•L•F appears on the upper line and ROMA on the lower line, identifying the issuing magistrate as Decimus Junius Silanus, son of Lucius. The coin is bordered by a dotted inner circle.
