| Opis rewersu | A small winged Victory drives a quadriga at full gallop to the right, holding the reins and a wreath, the four horses rendered in vigorous motion with detailed musculature. The composition faithfully reproduces the original Republican denarius type issued by the moneyer Lucius Rubrius Dossenus. The encircling legend occupies the upper and lateral fields, while the moneyer's name L RVBRI appears in the lower exergual area. The die work reflects the deliberate archaism employed by Trajan's mint in reproducing earlier Republican monetary types as part of his celebrated restitution series. |
