The portrayal is rendered in a vigorous, naturalistic style characteristic of late Republican die-cutting. The field is unadorned, the type is anepigraphic, and the flan is bordered by a neat ring of dots. |

The moneyer's name L•HOSTILIVS appears in the upper field and SASERN in the exergue or lower field, divided above and below the main design. A border of dots encircles the composition, which exhibits the bold, energetic line work characteristic of Roman Republican coinage circa 48 BC. |
