The composition is a standard 'restitutor' type emblematic of Hadrian's celebrated provincial tour policy. The exergual line provides a ground line beneath the figures, and a beaded border encircles the design. The encircling legend RESTITVTORI GALLIAE, distributed across the upper field, identifies the scene as a tribute to Hadrian's role as restorer of Gaul. |
