| Opis rewersu | The goddess Pietas is depicted seated left on a throne or chair of state, her figure draped in flowing robes. She extends her right hand forward in a gesture of offering or supplication, while her left hand holds a vertical sceptre or transverse staff resting against her shoulder. A small figure or altar may be present before her, consistent with standard Pietas reverse types for this issue. The legend PIETATI AVG is distributed in the field to the left and right of the figure, while COS III P P appears in the exergue. The reverse composition reflects the Hadrianic imperial virtue programme, emphasising piety as a cornerstone of his reign. |
