| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Galba facing right, rendered in high relief with characteristic aged features including pronounced jowls and a strong jawline. The portrait is executed in the realistic veristic tradition of Roman imperial portraiture, capturing the emperor's mature physiognomy with considerable artistic detail. In her extended right hand she holds a poppy and corn-ears, emblems of abundance and provincial prosperity, while her left hand supports a cornucopia, a further symbol of plenty and harmony. The legend CONCORDIA PROVINCIARVM is disposed around the periphery in Latin capitals, referencing the political message of unity among the Roman provinces that Galba wished to project during his brief reign. |
