Obverse description Bare-shouldered, laureate bust of Augustus facing right, rendered with fine engraving characteristic of the Lugdunum mint workshops. The emperor's portrait displays his characteristic features with a laurel wreath secured by a ribbon, the ties of which fall behind the neck. The legend encircles the effigy in a continuous arc around the periphery of the flan, with lettering executed in sharp, well-spaced Roman capitals. The portrait conveys the idealized yet individualized Augustan style that became the standard for imperial coinage throughout the Principate.

Reverse description Two facing figures of Gaius and Lucius Caesar stand frontally, each wearing the toga of Roman citizens. The princes each rest one hand upon a round shield set on the ground before them and grasp a spear with the other. Between the two figures in the upper field, a simpulum (priestly ladle) appears to the left and a lituus (augural wand) to the right, emblems of their priestly dignities. The multi-line legend occupies both the upper and lower portions of the field, referencing the princes' titles as consuls-designate and leaders of the youth. The composition is symmetrical and hieratic, emphasizing dynastic succession and the future of the Julio-Claudian line.
