Additional information

Vladimir Olgerdovich ruled Kyiv as a Lithuanian prince following his father Algirdas's consolidation of the region — a conquest that brought much of Rus' under Lithuanian hegemony without a significant military fight, Kyiv having declined sharply since the Mongol destruction of 1240. These small silver denars are among the earliest locally struck coinage attributable to Kyiv under Lithuanian rule. Vladimir was eventually displaced by Vitovt in 1394, ending the principality's brief numismatic independence.
