The scene is executed in the dynamic Hellenistic tradition characteristic of Syracusan die engraving. A monogram appears in the lower field beneath the horses. In the exergue, the Greek legend ΙΕΡΩΝΟΣ (genitive of Hieron) identifies the issuing authority as Hieron II, king of Syracuse. |
