Reverse description Central field depicts a stylized Gothic castle of three towers rendered in a bold, schematic manner, set within a pointed or lobed inner border. Below the castle, a small mint mark or initial mark is visible in the lower field. The entire device is enclosed within a beaded circle, with the Latin legend ALFONSVS REX CASTELL running around the outer margin, partially legible due to the irregular hammered flan. The coarse fabric and weak strike are characteristic of the emergency or pretender issues struck at Medina del Campo during the civil war period of 1465–1468.
