The composition of the wreath is dense and naturalistic, characteristic of Renaissance medallic art. The overall design faithfully reproduces the reverse type of the original 1563 Lira of Savoy. |

This piece is one of a series of replica coins issued by IPZS in the early 1990s reproducing historical Italian monetary types. The original 1 Lira was struck under Emanuele Filiberto I of Savoy — the duke who recovered his territories from French and Spanish occupation after the Peace of Cateau-Cambrésis in 1559 and immediately set about consolidating monetary authority in Turin, replacing the fragmented coinage of the preceding occupation period.
The Banca di Roma connection places this within a commemorative or promotional context for that institution, though IPZS produced similar replica series for multiple clients during this decade.
