Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Liberty wearing a feathered headdress, in the style of the Indian Head cent obverse type. The effigy occupies the central field, with a circular Latin legend surrounding it reading the merchant's name, address, and date of issue. The design is struck in low relief on an irregular planchet characteristic of Civil War-era store card production.

Reverse description Central field bearing the single word GROCER in bold, incuse Roman lettering, enclosed within an open wreath composed of oak and laurel branches tied at the base. A five-pointed star is positioned at the apex of the wreath, above the central inscription. A plain ribbon or bar appears at the very top of the design, above the star, with a beaded border encircling the entire reverse.
