| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field features the Portuguese royal arms arranged in a cross formation: four escutcheons charged with five bezants (quinas), positioned at the cardinal points around a small central shield, all within a raised inner circle. This heraldic device is characteristic of the Manueline period cinquinho coinage. The marginal legend in Latin references João II, identifying this piece as a hybrid coin struck with dies from two different reigns. The flan is irregular with weakness at the edges, as expected of hammered silver of this denomination. |
