Tigranes II ruled what briefly became the largest empire between Rome and Parthia, stretching at its peak from the Caspian to the Mediterranean. This bronze issue falls within the decades of maximum Armenian power, before Lucullus pushed Tigranes back across the Euphrates in 69 BC and permanently ended Armenian ambitions in Syria.
Bedoukian 119–122 encompasses several die variants across the type; collectors should note that attribution within that range depends on details not always legible on worn examples.
