背面描述 Full-length figure of a veiled and draped goddess, identified tentatively as Hera, standing facing left and holding a long sceptre or torch in her extended hand. The deity is rendered in a dignified, frontal-leaning stance typical of Hellenistic divine iconography. The royal inscription appears in two vertical columns flanking the figure on either side of the field, reading ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ to the left and ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ to the right. The flan is serrate and irregularly shaped, as is standard for this issue. The overall style reflects the Hellenistic artistic conventions prevalent in Seleucid bronze coinage of the mid-second century BC.

附加信息

Antiochos IV Epiphanes — "God Manifest" — was the king whose aggressive Hellenization policies in Judea directly provoked the Maccabean Revolt of 167 BC, an event recorded in both Books of Maccabees and referenced by the historian Polybius. His reign produced an enormous volume of bronze small-change across dozens of mints, reflecting both his ambitious building programs and his calculated effort to project Greek civic culture throughout his territories. The chalkon denomination itself was the workhorse of daily Seleucid commerce.
