| Reverse description | The reverse displays two large Greek letters in monogram form, prominently occupying the central field: the letters ΗΚ or ΚΛ arranged as a ligature or juxtaposed monogram, referencing the ethnic abbreviation of Kleitor. The characters are boldly incised in a simple, unadorned style characteristic of small Arkadian bronze issues. The flan is irregular and slightly oval, with the design centered but exhibiting the typical surface roughness of hammered provincial bronze coinage. Kleitor was a minor polis in the Arcadian highlands, inland from the major coastal powers and largely absent from the broader political conflicts that defined the early Hellenistic period. Its autonomous bronze coinage — of which this chalkon is a specimen — represents one of the few material traces of the city's independent civic identity before Arcadian regional politics steadily eroded the autonomy of smaller inland communities. The BCD Peloponnesos collection, which dispersed at auction in 2012, remains the key reference point for die-linking within this series.
