The emperor carries a shield on his left arm, while below the horse lie a discarded shield and a broken spear, emblems of the vanquished foe. The reverse legend GLORIA ROMANORVM encircles the composition, proclaiming the glory of Rome. A palm branch follows the mintmark in the exergue, identifying the emission of the first officina at the Ambianum mint. |
