Obverse description Central field bears the elaborate Ottoman tughra of Sultan Mahmud II (AH 1223–1252 / 1808–1839), rendered in highly stylized Arabic calligraphy with characteristic looping and interlacing strokes. The tughra is enclosed within a decorative cartouche, surrounded by an ornamental floral border. An outer band of Arabic legends encircles the central device, typical of the Algerian Regency coinage of this period. The milled edge is clearly visible on the coin's periphery.
