DT 296 falls within a cluster of small bronzes attributed to the tribes of Gallia Belgica, a region that Caesar was actively subduing between 57 and 51 BC — meaning many coins of this type were struck by peoples either at war with Rome or freshly conquered. Attribution remains uncertain because the iconographic vocabulary of Belgic bronze coinage was widely shared across tribal boundaries, making die-link studies the only reliable method of narrowing provenance.
