The Carnutes occupied the territory around modern Chartres and Orléans, and their lands held particular significance as the traditional gathering site for the annual pan-Gallic druidic assembly — a detail Caesar records with some precision in the *Gallic Wars*. This bronze was struck in the decades bracketing Caesar's conquest, a period when Gaulish tribal minting did not stop abruptly but wound down gradually as Roman monetary authority tightened its grip on the region.
DT 2473 is catalogued within a group of late Carnute bronzes showing considerable die-link variation, suggesting small-batch production across multiple episodes rather than a single organized issue.
