Beschrijving voorzijde Facing head rendered in a schematic Gaulish style, with broad, deeply struck features including prominent brow ridges, wide-set eyes, and an open mouth. The face fills nearly the entire flan, with the hair indicated by radiating relief lines around the perimeter. The design is characteristic of late La Tène Celtic coinage of the Aedui tribe.

Aanvullende informatie

The Aedui were among the most powerful of the Gallic tribes and maintained close diplomatic ties with Rome before the Gallic Wars upended everything. Their bronze coinage of this period was struck under increasing military and political pressure, culminating in their pivotal — and ultimately fatal — role in Vercingetorix's coalition at Gercovia and Alesia in 52 BC. The CECISV inscription likely references a magistrate or tribal authority, a naming convention the Aedui employed on several bronze series to assert civic identity during a period when that identity was rapidly being erased.
