Bronze with bird YLLYCCI Class XIa

The Senones occupied a territory centered on modern Sens, in the Yonne valley, and were among the Gallic tribes Julius Caesar encountered during his campaigns of the 50s BC. Their potin coinage — cast rather than struck, using a tin-rich bronze alloy — belongs to a manufacturing tradition that sets it apart from the die-struck silver and gold issues of neighboring peoples. Cast in linked chain molds, individual flans were broken apart before use, which is why so many examples retain a characteristic rough break at one edge.

The LT 7508 variety designation allows for meaningful sub-grouping, and the DT série 556 attribution narrows the typological placement further within Delestrée and Tache's revised framework.
