The Arverni were the dominant tribe of central Gaul — it was their king, Vercingetorix, who united the Gallic coalition against Caesar in 52 BC. The defeat at Alesia effectively ended Arvernian political power, and bronze issues like this one belong to the turbulent decades immediately following that collapse, when tribal minting continued under Roman pressure but with diminishing administrative coherence.
