Reverse description Central field features a plain cross pattée within a beaded inner circle, with a six-pointed star or mullet in each of the four angles formed by the arms of the cross, a design characteristic of late medieval Groningen civic issues. The cross is boldly struck in the Gothic hammered tradition, occupying the full width of the inner circle. Between the inner and outer beaded borders, the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial script records the year of issue and a devotional invocation. The overall design reflects the standard type of the Groningen braspenning of the 1437–1438 emission.
