Bracteate Pfennig - Ottokar II and successors Völkermarkt

Ottokar II of Bohemia held Carinthia from 1269 until his defeat and death at the Battle on the Marchfeld in 1278, after which Rudolf of Habsburg reasserted control over the duchy. The brief transitional period that followed — with competing authorities and shifting allegiances — is precisely why this type carries such an unusually wide attribution window. Völkermarkt was one of the principal minting places in Carinthia under Ottokar, and production continued under his successors without meaningful interruption to the coinage type itself.
