Obverse description Central field displays the royal arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by a crown, the entire composition set within a trilobe formed by three rotated crowns arranged centrifugally around the shield. The design is executed in the late Gothic style characteristic of the reign of Louis XII. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the central device, separated by a beaded inner border.

Obverse lettering LVDOVICVS FRAnCORV REX
(Translation: Louis XII, king of the Franks.)
Reverse description A plain cross divides the field into four quarters, with two fleurs-de-lis and two crowns alternately placed in the angles. The entire central motif is enclosed within a quatrefoil frame, itself set within a beaded inner circle. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the quatrefoil, reading the devotional phrase commonly found on late medieval French billon coinage.
