Two concentric circular bands of Arabic legend encircle the central field, reproducing the format of Islamic gold coinage of the period. As with the obverse, the script is frequently debased or pseudo-Arabic, reflecting the imitative nature of this third-type Saracen bezant struck at Acre. The arrangement emulates Fatimid dinar prototypes, serving primarily as a commercial instrument for trade in the eastern Mediterranean. |
