| Obverse description | Christ enthroned facing upon a backless throne, clad in nimbus cruciger, pallium, and colobium, the right hand raised in benediction while the left hand supports the book of Gospels. The abbreviated Greek Christogram IC-XC appears in the fields to either side of the figure. The imperial Greek legend KVPIЄ BOHΘЄI ('Lord, help') is inscribed across the field, characteristic of Byzantine workshop convention. The design reflects the hieratic, frontal style of late Byzantine iconographic tradition, emphasizing the divine authority of Christ as heavenly sovereign. |
