| Reverse description | A bold long cross pattée divides the reverse into four quadrants, each containing a stylized castle with battlements, representing the arms of Castile incorporated into the Portuguese royal heraldry. At the center of the cross is a shield bearing the Portuguese quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross). The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with a circular uncial Latin legend running along the outer border. The overall composition is characteristic of Fernandine billon coinage and follows the established iconographic tradition of the Iberian Peninsula in the late 14th century. |
