Maximianus was elevated to co-emperor by Diocletian in 285 AD, initially as Caesar and then Augustus — the AVGG NN legend on this issue reflects that dual Augustan authority, the NN abbreviation standing for *nostrorum*, a possessive formulation signifying shared rule rather than subordination. The Concordia reverse type was politically loaded: the tetrarchic system depended entirely on the fiction of harmonious collegiality between rulers who were, in practice, dividing the empire's administration and military command between them.
RIC V.2 615 is attributed to the eastern mint output under the joint names, though precise mint attribution within this period remains contested among specialists.
