Hadrian holds a scroll in his left hand, symbolising his acts of benefaction and administration. Between the two figures stands a vase containing a palm branch, an attribute evoking the province's celebrated Panhellenic heritage and the Nemean or Isthmian games. The scene powerfully encapsulates Hadrian's philhellenic policy of restoring and honouring the Greek provinces. The reverse legend RESTITVTORI ACHAIAE is distributed in the field. |
