| Description du revers | The emperor Hadrian stands facing left in military dress, extending his right hand to raise a kneeling female personification of Achaea, who reaches upward in a gesture of supplication and gratitude. Hadrian holds a scroll in his left hand, symbolising his acts of benefaction and administration. Between the two figures stands a vase containing a palm branch, an attribute evoking the province's celebrated Panhellenic heritage and the Nemean or Isthmian games. The scene powerfully encapsulates Hadrian's philhellenic policy of restoring and honouring the Greek provinces. The reverse legend RESTITVTORI ACHAIAE is distributed in the field. |
