In his extended right hand he holds a small dolphin, emblematic of his dominion over the seas, while his left hand rests upon a long trident, its tines visible at the upper right of the field. The deity is rendered with fine musculature in the Hellenistic tradition, reflecting Hadrian's well-known philhellenism.
