| Opis rewersu | The nude figure of Neptune stands facing left in the centre of the field, his weight shifted onto his right leg in a classical contrapposto stance. In his extended right hand he holds a small dolphin, emblematic of his dominion over the seas, while his left hand rests upon a long trident, its tines visible at the upper right of the field. The deity is rendered with fine musculature in the Hellenistic tradition, reflecting Hadrian's well-known philhellenism. The Latin legend is distributed around the periphery of the flan, with the letters P M to the left and TR P COS III to the right. |
