The composition evokes imperial military authority and the adventus tradition. The legend COS III PP appears in the exergue below the horse, set within a beaded border that frames the field. The bold, dynamic relief of the horse and rider is characteristic of the high-quality die work of the Roman mint under Hadrian. |
