The VIRTVS MILITVM reverse type was issued in the immediate aftermath of Galerius's brutal campaign against the Sassanid Empire, culminating in the decisive Roman victory at the Battle of Satala in 298 AD — a reversal of his catastrophic earlier defeat at Callinicum, where he reportedly fled the field and was forced to walk on foot before Diocletian's chariot as punishment.
