背面描述 Minerva, the divine patron of Domitian, depicted standing left in full military attire, wearing a crested helmet and aegis, extending her right hand to present a small figure of Victory, while her left hand holds an upright spear or sceptre; a large round shield rests at her feet to the left. The composition occupies the central field, framed by a beaded border, with the titulary legend distributed around the periphery.

附加信息

Domitian's early aurei from 81 AD date to the months immediately following the death of Titus, when Domitian moved aggressively to establish his own image and titulature. The tribunician and consular dating formula places this issue precisely in that first year of his reign, before the titles fully stabilized into the forms familiar from his later coinage.

Domitian's relationship with Minerva was unusually personal — he credited her with warning him in a dream of a conspiracy against his life, and maintained a private shrine to her. That devotion shaped his entire minting program for fifteen years.
