The hair is depicted with fine, naturalistically modeled strands swept forward beneath a wreath of bay leaves adorned with berries, consistent with the imperial laureate convention. The portrait displays a youthful idealized physiognomy with delicate facial features, a hallmark of the Augustan aesthetic programme. A beaded border frames the flan along the upper periphery. No obverse legend is present on this type. |

The inscription is arranged in three lines within the central panel of the altar face: FORTVN REDV / CAESARI AVG / S P Q R. The composition commemorates the Ara Fortunae Reducis dedicated by the Senate and Roman people to celebrate Augustus's safe return from the eastern provinces in 19 BC. The field surrounding the altar is plain. |
