This as belongs to a group struck under Tiberius honoring the deified Augustus, issued roughly five to eight years after Augustus's death in 14 AD. The posthumous deification issues were politically deliberate — Tiberius had an ambivalent relationship with the Augustan cult and resisted many honors for himself, yet actively promoted his predecessor's divine status as a means of legitimizing his own position. The PATER PATRIAE title, which Augustus accepted only reluctantly in 2 BC after years of senatorial pressure, appears here as a permanent fixture of the posthumous propaganda program.
RIC I 93 is among the more commonly encountered of the Tiberian memorial bronzes, suggesting sustained mint output rather than a short commemorative run.
