The figure rests the left foot upon a globe symbolic of Roman dominion, holds a long vertical sceptre in the right hand, and bears a cornucopia in the left arm. The flanking senatorial mark S C (Senatus Consultum) occupies the field to either side of the central figure, while the titulature legend PONT MAX TR POT COS III runs around the periphery.

Hadrian abandoned Trajan's Mesopotamian gains almost immediately upon accession, and the Honos type — appearing in his early coinage — functioned as a reframing: civic and martial virtue redefined around consolidation rather than expansion.
